High Efficiency Industrial Drives

Permanent Magnet Motors (PMSM) | OMPM Series

Ultra Premium IE4 & IE5 efficiency permanent magnet synchronous electric motors engineered for heavy-duty industrial automation, variable-speed pumps, fans, and compressor systems.

Next-Generation Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM)

The OMPM series represents OME Motors' premium lineup of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), built specifically for global industrial applications where maximum energy efficiency, extreme torque density, and precise speed control are paramount operational requirements.

Unlike conventional induction motors, the OMPM series integrates high-grade rare-earth permanent magnets within the rotor. This design completely eliminates rotor copper losses and slip, allowing the motor to achieve Super Premium (IE4) and Ultra Premium (IE5) energy efficiency classes across the full load spectrum.

Available in both Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) and Surface Permanent Magnet (SPM) configurations, OMPM motors deliver uncompromised full torque performance from near-zero speeds up to nominal speeds, offering a compact, lighter, and far more sustainable footprint for modern industrial plants.

Why Choose Permanent Magnet Motors over Induction Motors?

Upgrading to OMPM permanent magnet technology offers quantifiable operational savings, reduced heat generation, and superior torque dynamics.

IE4 / IE5 Peak Efficiency

Rotor magnet excitation eliminates rotor current draw and rotor copper losses. OMPM motors operate 2% to 5% more efficiently than NEMA Premium induction equivalents, drastically cutting long-term electricity expenses.

Full Constant Torque at Low Speed

PMSM motors sustain full rated torque from low RPM up to base speed without requiring external forced cooling fans in most standard operating profiles, making them optimal for low-speed high-torque applications.

Compact & Lightweight Footprint

High magnetic flux density allows OMPM motors to deliver equivalent power outputs in frame sizes up to two IEC steps smaller than standard asynchronous induction motors, saving valuable installation space.

Primary Industrial Applications

OMPM permanent magnet motors are customized for high-demand, continuous-duty industrial operations worldwide:

Pumping & Desalination Systems

Variable speed centrifugal and positive displacement pumps in water treatment, desalination, and irrigation facilities.

HVAC & Air Handling Units

Large commercial air handlers, industrial chillers, cooling towers, and continuous ventilation infrastructure.

Industrial Compressors

Centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating compressors requiring stable torque under severe variable load dynamics.

Power Plant Auxiliaries

Boiler feed pumps, forced draft fans, feed mechanisms, and auxiliary cooling circuits in power generation facilities.

Food & Beverage Processing

Variable speed conveyor lines, industrial mixers, high-precision drives, and hygienic processing machinery.

Marine & Offshore Engineering

Auxiliary propulsion systems, deck machinery, winch drives, and ballast pump systems meeting marine classification standards.

Permanent Magnet Motor FAQ

Technical questions answered by OME Motors' senior engineering team.

What is the primary technical difference between a PMSM and an induction motor?
An induction motor relies on electromagnetic induction to create rotor field flux, producing rotor slip and inherent I²R copper heat losses. A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) utilizes embedded rare-earth magnets on the rotor, eliminating rotor electrical losses and slip. This key difference enables 2% to 5% higher operational efficiency, zero-speed full torque capability, and a smaller overall frame size.
What are the benefits of IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) over SPM (Surface Permanent Magnet) topology?
In SPM designs, magnets are mounted directly onto the rotor surface, providing linear magnetic performance for standard speed applications. IPM designs embed magnets deep within rotor laminations. This geometry introduces a reluctance torque component, extends the constant-power speed range under field-weakening conditions, and ensures high mechanical stability under centrifugal forces.
Do OMPM Permanent Magnet Motors require a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)?
Standard industrial PMSM units require a VFD equipped with vector control algorithms to operate and synchronize. However, OME Motors also manufactures Line-Start PMSM (LSPMSM) models equipped with an internal auxiliary cage rotor, allowing direct-on-line starting for fixed-speed applications.
How do magnets withstand demagnetization risks over long lifecycle operations?
Under rated operational parameters, rare-earth magnets maintain magnetic integrity for over 20 years. To eliminate demagnetization risks caused by thermal spikes or excessive fault currents, OMPM motors feature built-in PTC / PT100 thermal winding sensors and reinforced VSD-duty insulation systems coordinated with drive protections.
